Art makers and lovers alike are invited to join the Volcano Art Center for the first of many creative conversations about the Hawaii Island Network of Artists initiative from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the VAC Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.

HINA project coordinator Tiffany DeEtte Shafto and art center CEO Tanya Aynessazian will lead an open discussion on the needs of local artists — what works, what doesn’t — and share ideas for collective improvement.

“The overall goals for HINA will be examined, with attendee input warmly encouraged,” said coordinators.

Participation in the Hawaii Island Network of Artists is free to all visual artists on the Big Island. All meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. Other sessions will be Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Pahoa Community Center; Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Waimea Community Center; Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, room UCB 127; Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center in Honokaa; Jan. 24 at SKEA, the South Kona Education Association; Feb. 7 at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa, and March 7 at the Naalehu Community Center. Schedules have not been set for meetings in North Kohala and North Hilo.

There are many ways to participate if you are unable to attend a meeting in person. For more information, visit www.HINArtists.org, connect on Facebook at facebook.com/HINArtists, on Twitter at @HINArtists, through email at info@HINArtists.org or call the Volcano Art Center at 967-8222.
